COURT REDISTRICTING BATTLE PUSHES
TEXAS PRIMARY TO APRIL 3, 2012
DECEMBER 26, 2011--Court battles over redistricting have moved the Texas P)reimary election from March to April 3, 2012. This week, most of the action in Texas redistricting takes place behind the scenes, as lawyers work on reply briefs in the interim map appeal and gear up both for the January 9 Supreme Court argument and the January 17 start of trial in the preclearance case. TO STOP SHARIA LAW (ISLAMIC LAW) IN TEXAS
RESOLUTION
PRESERVING AMERICAN FREEDOM
PREAMBLE of the Texas State Republican Platform:
The embodiment of the conservative dream in America is Texas. Throughout the world people dare to
dream of freedom and opportunity. The Republican Party of Texas unequivocally defends that dream.
We strive to preserve the freedom given to us by God, implemented by our Founding Fathers, and
embodied in the Constitution. We recognize that the Nuclear family is the strength of our nation. It is
our solemn duty to protect life and develop responsible citizens. We understand that our economic
success depends upon free market principles. If we fail to maintain our sovereignty, we risk losing the
freedom to live these ideals.
Whereas the Irving Republican Women’s Club in support of the State Republican Platform because we
believe in the following Principles:
Strict adherence to the Declaration of Independence and U.S and Texas Constitutions
Limiting the expansion of Government power Preserving American Freedom and Texas Sovereignty Restoring American Sovereignty and leadership, and we honor all of those that serve and protect our freedom with peace through strength.
Whereas, the Irving Republican Women’s Club has adopted this Resolution and encourages all Elected
Republican Representatives and Senators, at both the State and National level to honor, respect and defend the Texas State Republican Platform, including the urgently needed the Preserving American Freedom Plank of the Platform.
Whereas, the details of Preserving American Freedom is on Page 2 of the Texas State Republican Platform,
Preservation of Republican Form of Government as follows:
We support our republican form of government in Texas as set forth in the Texas Bill of Rights (ART. I, $ 2, $ 29; Art II $1; and Art. XVII $ 2g) and oppose Initiative and Referendum. We also urge the Texas
Legislature and the United States Congress to enact legislation prohibiting any jurisdiction from allowing any substitute or parallel system of Law – specifically, but not limited to Sharia Law – to be recognized which is not in accordance with the Constitution of Texas or the United States of America.

IRWC URGES LAWMAKERS TO SUPPORT BILLS THAT UPHOLD US CONSTITUTION
The Irving Republican Women’s Club strongly encourages all Texas & National Representatives to support bills on this subject which may be coming up for passage in this year’s Texas session and also in the National Congress.
The Preserving American Freedom language needs to be in a LAW passed by the combined houses by a majority of the Representatives at the earliest possible opportunity, specifically within the current session of the Texas Legislature and prior to the 2011 summer recess in the United States Congress.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the application of foreign laws and foreign forum selection in this state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Title 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is amended by adding Chapter 148 to read as follows:
CHAPTER 148. APPLICATION OF FOREIGN LAWS; SELECTION OF FOREIGN FORUM
Sec. 148.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "foreign law" means a law, rule, or legal code of a jurisdiction outside of the states and territories of the United States.
Sec. 148.002. DECISION BASED ON FOREIGN LAW. A ruling or decision of a court, arbitrator, or administrative adjudicator may not be based on a foreign law if the application of that law would violate a right guaranteed by the United States Constitution or the constitution of this state.
Sec. 148.003. CHOICE OF FOREIGN LAW OR FORUM IN CONTRACT. (a) A contract provision providing that a foreign law is to govern a dispute arising under the contract is void to the extent that the application of the foreign law to the dispute would violate a right guaranteed by the United States Constitution or the constitution of this state.
(b) A contract provision providing that the forum to resolve a dispute arising under the contract is located outside the states and territories of the United States is void if the foreign law that would be applied to the dispute in that forum would, as applied, violate a right guaranteed by the United States Constitution or the constitution of this state.
Sec. 148.004. LIMITATION ON FORUM NON CONVENIENS. If a resident of this state commences an action in this state, a court may not grant a motion for forum non conveniens if the foreign law that would be applied to the dispute in the forum to which the moving party seeks to have the action removed would, as applied, violate a right guaranteed by the United States Constitution or the constitution of this state.
SECTION 2. (a) Section 148.002, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a ruling or decision that becomes final on or after the effective date of this Act. A ruling or decision that becomes final before the effective date of this Act and any appeal of that ruling or decision are governed by the law in effect immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
(b) Section 148.003, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a contract entered into on or after the effective date of this Act. A contract entered into before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before that date, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
(c) Section 148.004, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a motion for forum non conveniens made on or after the effective date of this Act. A motion for forum non conveniens made before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before that date, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.

IRWC MEMBERS ACTIVE IN COUNTY AND STATE LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
Irving Republican Women's Club members have already begun an energetic new year. Five officers of the club attended the Dallas County Council of Republican Women's Leadership Conference in January 2011.
A number of members will join the Texas Federation of Republican Women for the Texas organization's Legislative Day, March 3, 2011 in Austin.

Irving Republican Women’s Club announces the formation of a FAN page on Face book! Check it out at: http://www.facebook.com/IrvingRWC . We also have a web site that has good information about our representatives. That direction is: www.republican-women-irving.com.
Irving Republican Women’s Club is attempting to utilize some of the “new social media” to spread the word about our wonderful candidates and to encourage those who do twitter and face book to get acquainted with GOP candidates from the top of the ticket and all the way down the GOP ticket.
